Manning Gottlieb hires Mudge to run AA account

LONDON - Manning Gottlieb OMD has hired Ron Mudge as a director to run its Automobile Association account.

Mudge, the former media director of Saatchi & Saatchi, joined Manning Gottlieb this week. He replaces Jeremy Tester, who has left the AA account director role to fill the post of marketing director at Holmes Place.

Manning Gottlieb won the £34m AA account last November. Mudge will have overall responsibility for a team of 12 people on the business.

Mudge was media director at Saatchis between 1998 and 2001. Following the closure of the department, he joined Walker Media as managing partner on its Dixons Group and Freeserve business. He stayed a year before leaving the agency last October.

In a career spanning 21 years, Mudge has worked at several agencies including Yellowhammer and The Media Centre. He first joined Saatchis in 1995 before leaving briefly to take the role of communications director at DMB&B. He then returned to Saatchis in the more senior media director role.

Alison Wright, the managing director of Manning Gottlieb OMD, said: "Ron's all-round media experience makes him the perfect candidate to run a large account such as the AA. He combines outstanding strategic ability with a practical, hands-on approach."

Mudge said: "Coming from a more strategic background, I've always admired Manning Gottlieb from afar. The AA account is an interesting one because it understands the value of building a dialogue with customers."
