Marc Bedwell exits MediaVest as shop announces redundancies

MediaVest is parting company with its head of press, Marc Bedwell,

as part of a series of redundancies across the agency.

The agency's research and insight director, Keith Donaldson, is also

included in a total of six redundancies, which are believed to include

two job losses in the planning department. Neither Bedwell nor Donaldson

are believed to have a job to go to.

The management of MediaVest's press department is likely to pass to

Andrew Smith, who was promoted to the new role of head of press, radio

and cinema buying in July. At the time, Bedwell retained operational

control of the press department.

Radio had been taken from Bedwell's control and handed to Smith in July

1999.

Bedwell is the second high-profile figure to depart the agency in the

past month. The deputy managing director, Nick Theakstone, resigned in

September to take the newly created post of investment director at

MindShare.

The redundancies come as a response to what has been a tough year for

MediaVest, which has been exacerbated by recessionary economic

conditions sweeping the market.

In early July, the agency lost its £18 million Barclays account to

its sister agency, Starcom Motive, after a pitch including OMD UK and

Optimedia.

MediaVest was not available for comment as Campaign went to press.
