Leagas Delaney has hired the industry veteran Alfredo Marcantonio as the creative director for its Rome office.
He takes over from Charlotte Moore, who left to have a baby. She will retain a role within the agency, however.
Leagas Delaney's chief executive, Tim Delaney, said: 'Creatives lead our offices and Marcantonio has a wealth of experience to do this. I trust him.'
Delaney, who has been making regular trips to the Rome office to work on its Telecom Italia account, said he would now spend less time there: 'I've hired him and I'll let him get on with it.'
Marcantonio was ousted from D'Arcy in August 2000 after only a year.
Before that he was the creative director for GM Europe at Interpublic Group. He has also spent several years at Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO.
Marcantonio joins the 20-strong agency at a time of high activity, according to its managing director, Miki Delaney: 'We are growing very fast, and are currently pitching for six or seven new accounts.' One of which is a leading Italian petrol retailer that has not advertised for ten years.
Marcantonio said: 'When Tim called me with the opportunity it was too good to turn down. It's great to be working with a young team actually writing ads rather than sitting in meetings all the time.'
He is now hiring a copywriter and two planners. The creative Francesca Sprecacenare will join from Leo Burnett's Rome office where she worked on the mobile phone company Blue. Planner Alex Hopton joins from D'Arcy in London, and Velerio Franchi from Hall & Partners in London.
Leagas Delaney was set up in Rome in 1997 to handle the Adidas account. It now has the Telecom Italia and Goodyear Italy business, and has recently won the account for the Italian bank Banca San Paulo Invest, expected to add a further pounds 12 million to its billings.
