He replaces Dave King, who joined the Telegraph Group in December 2004.
Rich, Emap Performance's managing director, takes on the new role as well as continuing to run Performance. He'll work with Dawn Bebe, Emap Élan's managing director, to head this division, and report to Paul Keenan, the chairman of Emap's advertising board.
Rich will be responsible for the 250-strong Emap Advertising team. Karen Stacey, the broadcast sales director, Carrie Barker, the magazines sales director, and Jane Kesley, the cross-media sales director, will also all report to him.
Rich's appointment ends a period of instability at Emap Advertising; the company lost its broadcast director, Tim Bleakley, and its head of magazine sales, Theresa Coligan, shortly before King departed.
