Mark Austin returns to Europe to take on MEC chairman role

Mark Austin, the chief executive of Mediaedge:cia Asia- Pacific, is being parachuted in to take up the new position of chairman of MEC, in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

He will take on many of the responsibilities of Mainardo de Nardis, the global chief executive of MEC who also previously ran the region, allowing de Nardis to focus on his global role.

De Nardis explained: "We have a sensational business in the EMEA region, which over the years has gone from strength to strength - we are at the very top in terms of ranking and operate with more than 2,000 people across some 43 markets."

The move further strengthens MEC's senior management in the EMEA region.

Austin will work alongside the chief executive of MEC in the region, Dominic Grainger.

Austin, who was a joint founder of the UK agency Austin West Media, has worked in the Asia-Pacific region for eight years.

Austin said: "MEC is in an extremely healthy state commercially and culturally and the business is on the verge of further substantial growth. Now is a good time to hand over to new management who will bring fresh energy and passion to our clients, people and the business overall and take us to the next stage of success."

Austin will be replaced by Andre Nair, who is currently the chief executive of MindShare South Asia, with Nair retaining his existing responsibility as the chief executive of Group M India.

The changes are planned to take place later this year.
