The reclusive billionaire founded the company with his father, Frank Mars, in 1911 in Tacoma, Washington.

The privately held company is now run by Mars' sons, Forrest Mars Junior and John Mars, who are co-presidents of the company.

Mars today employs 30,000 people worldwide and its products include M&Ms, Skittles, Milky Way, Dove, Snickers and Three Musketeers. Other non confectionery brands include Uncle Ben's Rice, the Kal Kan and Pedigree pet foods.
