Chris Maybury, the general manager of Times Newspapers, has

resigned to become the chief operating officer of the Institute for

International Research, a leading training, conference and exhibitions

company.

He will be replaced by Alasdair MacLeod, the circulation director of

News International.

Maybury, who joined News International as sales and marketing director

in 1994, came from a retail background. He had previously been the

property director of Marks & Spencer.

He said: ’I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the Times and the

newspaper is well on its way to taking over the Daily Telegraph’s sales.

I have chosen to leave now when there is a good gap before the crucial

September period.’ He will leave the publisher next Friday and is due to

take up his new position at the IIR in September.

Leslie Hinton, executive chairman of News International, said: ’I am

sorry Chris has decided to leave.’
