Ben Langdon, the chairman and chief executive of McCann-Erickson
UK, has launched a major restructure of the network’s UK operations
following the creation of the McCann UK and Ireland group last
The restructure sees Robin Lauffer, head of strategic planning at
McCann-Erickson London, take on the new role of group executive planning
director while Will Hamilton has been plucked from Windsor-based BH
McCann to become group marketing director.
Lauffer and Hamilton will both be based in London.
The reshuffle also sees Pascale Reed replacing Lauffer as head of
planning and another planner Alex Ferguson, moving up to client services
director of the London agency.
The move is intended to boost the identity of the UK and Ireland Group
as an integrated organisation rather than simply a collection of
In addition to the high-profile operations in London, Manchester and
Birmingham, the group boasts a number of partners and ’corridor’
companies providing online, relationship and direct marketing as well as
healthcare and PR services.
’Before October London was run separately to the rest of the group and
we really had two companies running McCanns,’ Langdon said. ’I’ve spent
the last three months identifying how we can best use the consolidation
to bring in new business.’
Lauffer, who was credited with a big role in last month’s successful
pitch for the dollars 30 million Viagra account, will work with existing
planning departments to shape the group’s future strategy. ’She has the
ability to think horizontally across communication disciplines and sell
the concept of the UK group to clients,’ Langdon said.
He added that Hamilton’s appointment showed that the group’s resources
extended beyond the M25. ’There’s no reason why the leadership of this
group can’t be given to someone from outside London. Will is extremely
enthusiastic and persistent.’
