Mead moves out of AMV's offices <BR>to end 25-year agency link

LONDON - Peter Mead is moving out of Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO's offices amid reports of a rift with BBDO's European chairman, Michael Baulk.

BBDO chiefs are known to have been unhappy at Mead's role in directing the £8 million Mercedes account into the CDD start-up. But group sources were this week stressing that this was unconnected to his exit. "This isn't an eviction," one said.

"We were disgruntled over what happened but Mead was under no pressure to leave," an insider said. "It's just that, as an Omnicom vice-chairman, he has a role across a broader spectrum and there was a feeling that it made no sense for him to remain inextricably linked with AMV."

David Abbott ended his involvement four years ago while Adrian Vickers has kept an office at the agency.

Mead's exit ends his direct link with the agency he helped found 25 years ago.

His switch to another Omnicom office in London represents a further break with its past by the UK's largest agency, while acknowledging his broader role within AMV's Omnicom parent.
