Targeting expats and English speakers worldwide, it lifts the best content from the group's UK magazine range (Guardian Weekend and G2), as well as the Observer Monthly publications (Food, Music, Sport and Women).
Penelope Cruz features on the cover of the launch issue. A round-up of the month is followed by interviews with celebrities such as Alice Cooper and Andriy Shevchenko, as well as reportage. Fashion, interiors, food, travel and health are also covered.
As you would expect, the quality of the writing is strong, while the imagery and photography are emotive and have impact.
There are 11 pages of advertising in issue one, as well as three house ads. Not surprisingly, the two main categories are finance and travel. Such a publication is fishing in a limited advertising pond, but its look and feel could be improved by targeting the fashion and beauty sector.
There is also scope for increasing its insertion account from one.
Locally produced expat magazines are of inferior quality to Guardian Monthly, so there should be demand for this well-crafted title.
