Emap Metro is claiming a first by splitting the front cover of its
teen music title, Smash Hits, into five creative executions, each
featuring a different Spice Girl.
Emap aims to capitalise on the fresh wave of interest surrounding the
all-girl group, which will reach fever pitch at Christmas with the
launch of the Spice Girls’ Movie.
Emap has increased the print run of the fortnightly Smash Hits from
500,000 to 600,000. However, general manager Margaret Heffenon declined
to reveal the individual breakdown of the covers. She added that Emap
would be tracking sales carefully.
