MediaVest UK's joint managing director Robert Ray is leaving his role at the agency to head a new global business unit designed to service Procter & Gamble across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
As the managing director of the Starcom MediaVest Group's P&G Global Business Unit, Ray will report to Kevin Malloy, the European vice-president and chief executive of MediaVest Worldwide, who is based in New York.
Ray, who takes up the new role in mid-March, will remain at MediaVest's London offices but no longer reports to the agency's chief executive, Jim Marshall. The appointment also moves Ray outside the reporting lines of SMG's regional operation in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, headed by the chief executive, Mark Cranmer.
Ray joined MediaVest as a planner more than a decade ago and worked his way up the ranks to become joint managing director in 1997.
Marshall said: 'Obviously we will be sad to lose Robert, but he is only moving 30 feet or so next door, and this is an excellent new opportunity for him. It also reflects the importance Starcom MediaVest Group places on developing the P&G GBU.'
The move coincides with a restructure of MediaVest's London agency, kicked off by Marshall following the agency's poaching of former Walker Media managing partner Andrew Sherman.
'This is actually the culmination of a reorganization that has taken place over the past six months or so,' Marshall said. 'Andrew Sherman will further strengthen the quality of our media planning product.'
