The network picked up the account having pitched against J Walter Thompson. That network handles the global Merrill Lynch account, while Lowe Lintas holds the HSBC global business.

Victor Dodig, chief marketing officer for Merrill Lynch HSBC, said: "Competition for the account has been intense and the quality of work presented to us from the shortlisted agencies has been extremely high. In Lowe Lintas we are confident we have selected the right agency to develop a communications strategy to differentiate the Merrill Lynch HSBC offering as we roll out our service across the UK and the world over the next few years."

The London-based joint venture was announced in April of this year. It will attempt to capitalise on HSBC's global reach with Merrill Lynch's investment credentials. It will first launch in the UK, later this year, then Australia, Canada, Japan and Germany.
