Butcher will continue at Reveal until the end of the year and NatMag expects to announce his replacement soon.
Before joining Reveal, Butcher worked as associate editor of Ideal Home, Prima, and Now and was also a deputy editor at Closer.
Under Butcher’s editorship Reveal was rebranded as the "celebrity magazine written by celebrities" in August last year.
Reveal recorded a circulation figure of 315,660 in the latest set of ABC figures up 14 per cent up year on year.

NatMag’s managing director, Jessica Burley, said: "This has been a very hard decision for Michael, we wish him and his family the very best at this difficult time.
"Michael has achieved a huge amount in his time as editor for Reveal and the recent ABC figure is testament to his creativity and determination. He leaves a fantastic team that will miss him hugely. Michael will be a hard act to follow, and personally I will miss him greatly."

Butcher decided to leave the role to care for his mother who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.
