In his new role, he will act as part of the senior management team and be responsible for bringing a more technological slant to the agency's digital offering.

He will also work across a number of accounts, as well as on the upcoming O2 digital pitch. Edge replaces Buster Dover, who is leaving the agency for a year to travel.

Amelia Torode, the head of strategy and innovation at VCCP, said: "VCCP has always done very integrated work. Michael is a proper creative geek, in the good sense of the word, and has a very techy background which will push the agency's digital offering to the next level."

At AKQA, Edge worked on accounts such as EA Games, Warner Bros and Xbox, where he worked on the Halo 3 "believe" virals that won the Integrated and Titanium Grands Prix at Cannes in 2008.
