Motorola calls pitch for £30m European creative

LONDON - Motorola is looking for a network agency to handle a £30m pan-European brief.

The assignment will be to create adaptations of global campaigns for the European market as well as press and poster work.

It is thought that the pitchlist is made up of three UK agencies and two European agencies. The incumbent, Ogilvy & Mather, is believed to be involved, but it refused to comment on the pitch.

The mobile handset giant has already moved some of its business out of O&M -- in December last year, it moved its £13.5 million UK advertising account into Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO. BBDO has also been working with Motorola in the US on a project basis.

180 Amsterdam works on the account in Europe and created the recent commercial for the launch of Motorola's Pebl handset.

Last month, Motorola was hit by the death of its chief marketer, Geoffrey Frost, who had worked at the company for the past six years. In the interim period, the corporate vice-president of marketing, George Neill, is running the business.

The company is the second-largest handset manufacturer in the world, with a 19% share of the market.
