Movers and shakers: PHD, JWT, Mondelez, Havas and more

Campaign's weekly round-up of the hires, departures and promotions across the industry

PHD UK has promoted two of its senior leadership team: Mike Florence, currently head of planning, is promoted to chief strategy officer, while Hugh Cameron becomes the agency's chairman after working as chief brand development officer. The Omnicom media agency has also appointed Vizeum’s Luisa Cameron as managing partner, head of implementation and Maxus’ Kirsten Oates as head of people. Both join the board of PHD UK. 

As Campaign revealed last week, J Walter Thompson London is disbanding its executive partners structure and promoting James Whitehead to chief executive. Executive partner Joe Petyan will take the role of regional director, Europe. Russell Ramsey, the third executive partner, remains executive creative director.

JWT London has also hired Emma Hoyle, formerly Channel 4’s head of HR, as director of talent in London and Europe. Kate Muir, a business director for JWT Worldwide, becomes head of new business for UK and Europe, while former Tribal Worldwide head of strategy Allan Blair joins as head of digital planning. The WPP agency has also promoted managing partner Simone Forster to the new role of director of client partnership. 

Mondelez has made two senior appointments in a move that sees responsibility for e-commerce separated from media: Rob Rupczynski has joined as vice-president and head of global media and digital from Kraft Heinz – the company that Mondelez split from in 2012 – where he was vice-president of media, data and CRM. Meanwhile, new vice-president and global head of e-commerce Jeff Jarrett has joined from Kimberly-Clark, where he was vice-president of global e-commerce and commercial innovation.

Havas is bringing together its creative and media divisions with a group chairman role for each of its four major regions: In the UK, Chris Hirst, the European and UK group chief executive, will take on the additional role of chairman for Havas Group UK. Yannick Bolloré, chairman and chief executive of Havas, will take on the role in France; Alfonso Rodés Vilà, deputy chief executive of Havas and global chief executive of Havas Media Group, will take on the additional role in Spain; and Andrew Benett, chief executive of Havas Worldwide and chief strategy officer of Havas Creative Group, will do the same for North America.

Carat has appointed Alison Jones, the marketing director for Woolworths-owned discount store Big W in Australia, as chief client officer.

Diageo has hired its first executive to head up programmatic: Nestlé digital marketer Gawain Owen.

The British Interactive Membership Association has appointed TH_NK chief executive and founder Tarek Nseir and former Amaze chief executive Natalie Gross as joint chairs for the next three years.

Costa chief marketing officer Carol Welch is leaving the company after three years.

Digital marketing agency Jellyfish has hired Shawn Smith as US director of social media. In this role, Smith will oversee the Jellyfish social media team in the US, build on the agency’s existing capabilities and craft successful, data-driven campaigns for clients. Smith joins Jellyfish from AB&A Advertising in Miami, where he was a digital media director.

Stink has partnered with Swedish director of music videos, TV and film, Johan Renck, and Icelandic producer Svana Gisla. Gisla & Renck, which formed last year, will lead the creation of Stink Film’s long format slate of productions that encompass music, entertainment and scripted television and feature projects across all Stink’s territories.

Shortlist Media has appointed Sophie Robinson, creative director at Metro, to the newly-created role of chief marketing officer. Robinson will oversee the planning, development and execution of Shortlist Media’s marketing and partnership initiatives. She will also take ownership of newly launched content studio, the Shortlist Media Family; the events division, which includes Stylist Live; and all trade and consumer marketing initiatives for the business.

Insight activation agency Strive Insight has expanded its team with the hire of Alex Webb as client director. Webb previously worked as principal at Incite for over six years with a specialism in the technology and financial services sectors.
