Dow Jones International, the advertising sales unit for Dow Jones & Company, has announced the appointment of Karen Mullis to the newly created position of managing director, sales, based in London. She will report to Ivor Kelly, managing director of Dow Jones International. Mullis joined the company as a senior sales executive in 1989, working her way up the career ladder and doing stints in Hong Kong and Paris.

BBC Worldwide has appointed Ann Barrett fashion manager for its new

women’s magazine Eve. She was previously a senior sales executive on

Attic Futura’s B magazine and before that worked at Emap’s Top

Sante.





Schoolsnet.com has announced two additions to its sales department. Andy

Cowlishaw has been appointed head of sales and Nicola Swing becomes a

sales executive. Cowlishaw joins Schoolsnet from Express Newspapers

where he worked for two years on the West End agency sales team. Before

that he was an ad manager at Centaur Communications. Swing joins from

Emap Radio where she worked in promotions.





Marie Friel has been promoted to sales director of The Wall Street

Journal Publications, following her appointment in August 1998 as group

head of sales. Friel joined from The Scotsman in August 1997. Emma

Cleary, who joined from Hobson’s Publishing in August 1997, has moved up

to replace Friel as group head of sales.





Tania Martin has been appointed sales director of the newly created

magazine sales group for the Far Eastern Economic Review and America

Economia. Martin joined company as a sales executive eight years ago

from Conde Nast. Within two years she was promoted to ad manager and now

leads the sales teams for all territories handled from the London and

Paris offices.





Recruitment agency The Morgan Rutherford Group has recruited Carolynn

Anderson to its new Manchester office. Anderson joins from The Scotsman

as business development manager. She will report to general manager Ben

Lowe. Morgan Rutherford opened its Manchester office on 1 June.





The Daily Star has promoted Jason Campbell to group head of display

advertising. Campbell joined Express Newspapers in 1997 from IPC

Magazines as a sales executive on the Daily Star. He replaces Andy

Farthing, who is leaving to become sales director of Management

Today.





Conde Nast has appointed William Miller director of new media. He will

join the company on 3 July from Uden Associates, the broadcast

independent, where he was managing director. He has been at Uden for ten

years, working on shows such as The Car Show for Channel 5, and Secret

Histories and Equinox for Channel 4.





Tim Dyer has joined radio sales house Opus as a sales executive. He

previously worked on the Radio Times display team and, before that, The

Independent’s weekend magazines.
