PHDiQ, the new-media division of New PHD, has appointed Tamsin
Lower digital planner/buyer. Lower will work on the BT and British
Midland accounts and handle media for GroupTrade.com, a trade shopping
service for small businesses. Lower is in talks with British Midland -
which recently signed up with PHDiQ - about its overall digital
strategy. Lower was previously at Carat Interactive where she handled
online media for Debenhams, Disney, Guinness and Cable & Wireless.
Dougal Deakin has moved over from The Daily Mail, where he was
classified sales executive, to join The Daily/Sunday Telegraph as a
display sales executive. Deakin began his career in the sales department
of The Mirror.
Excite’s senior director of international sales, Rick Vorhaus, has been
promoted to vice-president of media services. The role involves
overseeing European ad sales, sponsorship and e-commerce. Vorhaus joined
Excite in the US in 1995 as the company’s first sales director. He is
credited with helping increase ad revenues from dollars 250,000 in 1995
to more than dollars 45 million in 1997. He became senior director of
international sales in 1998, with responsibility for sales across the
UK, Europe, Japan, Australia and Canada, and moved to London in 1999.
There are no plans to replace Vorhaus in the international sales
The Evening Standard’s classified department has promoted Iain Duffy to
field sales executive with responsibility for residential property.
Duffy moves from his previous position of senior telephone sales
executive on business to business. In his new role, he will report to
property sales manager Janet Hector.
Chris Pitchford, group advertisement manager for Haymarket Business
Publication’s marketing titles Marketing Direct and Direct Response, has
been promoted to advertisement director. In his new role, Pitchford will
take on responsibility for a third magazine Promotions and Incentives
and oversee a team of 13.
The Mail on Sunday has recruited Karen Eccles as field sales executive
responsible for the paper’s travel sector. Eccles was previously group
advertisement manager on Aim Publications’ You and Your Wedding.
Regional Independent Media, publisher of the Yorkshire Post, has
appointed Marlen Roberts to the company board. Roberts is currently
managing director of Regional Interactive Media, the new-media arm of
the group. Regional Interactive Media is being restructured as a
standalone company. Advertising revenue for its 18 sites grew by almost
400 per cent in 1999.
Hannah Greer has joined the sport, leisure, dotcom and consumer
specialist Renaissance Public Relations as business development
director. Greer was formerly a senior sales executive at the postcard
advertising company Freecards Media, which she joined after working for
arch-rival The Cardguide. She started her career as a sales executive at
