MTV is creating a UK-based sales force to service its Asian
Simon Godden, the music channel’s chief Asian consultant, said he will
be looking to recruit at least three sales people for a department
expected to be up and running in the next few months.
The new staff will need a good knowledge of the Asian market and will
bring in clients from across Europe to advertise in Asia. According to
Godden, although there is a sales force of 60 people across Asia, the
European market can only be conquered nearer to home. ’In terms of the
communication with the Asian market, it’s far easier to operate our
business from the UK,’ he said.
Godden is already in negotiations with new clients and has been in the
UK developing new business for the past few months. Major advertisers
interested in advertising with MTV Asia include Adidas, Swatch, Erickson
The MTV Asian network is based in Singapore and operates across the
whole of Asia. The new sales staff will work closely with the existing
sales team of 60 out of MTV Europe’s offices.
