Head of commercial development at the Telegraph, Helen Slater,
nominates Kevin Kerrigan, operations director at IPC Electric
Kevin ’Splash’ Kerrigan was Slater’s boss when she joined IPC’s inserts
arm, Innovator, as group head. He had previously served in the Royal
Engineers.
’Kevin was very disciplined, although he insisted on calling trainers
’daps’. He taught me all the principles of marketing and management and
was excellent at building teamwork. He treated people fairly and I think
he took a lot from his experiences in the army. He also took time to
build my self-confidence and encouraged me to apply for a group ad
manager’s job on IPC’s women’s weeklies.
So why ’Splash?’ ’He got his nickname after building a bridge which
collapsed, discharging a number of tanks into the river.’
