The National Magazine Company, the parent of consumer titles
including Cosmopolitan and Esquire, is to launch a contract publishing
division.
NatMags Contract Publishing will be part of NatMags Specialist Media and
will be headed by Julian Downing and Carey Sedgwick, from Citrus
Publishing.
Downing was the communications planning director and Sedgwick was the
editorial and design director at Citrus.
The new contract publishing division will offer distribution
opportunities via NatMags' news-stand portfolio and a dedicated
editorial, advertising and publishing staff.
Sedgwick said: "The success of contract magazines depends on the
marriage of news-stand editorial quality and design with relationship
marketing principles."
Separately, She magazine, the company's monthly for 30-somethings, is
searching for an advertising agency to handle the title's relaunch with
its February 2002 issue.
The relaunch comes after the appointment of Eve Cameron as She's
editor.
The creator and former editor of Zest, the monthly health and fitness
magazine, Cameron swapped roles with She's editor, Alison Pylkkanen,
last month.
NatMags retains BMP DDB as the agency for its Best weekly title, but She
is understood to be approaching other agencies.
