- NCR, the retail and banking technology company, has appointed Circus to handle its £10 million global communications business. after an extensive pitch.
Circus was appointed by NCR's financial solutions group in a final head-to-head against Bartle Bogle Hegarty. The incumbent was Anderson and Lembke.
NCR, best known for its virtual monopoly of automatic cash machines, is at the forefront of financial software systems. Current projects range from identifying consumers via their finger-prints to incorporating credit or cash-card information within everyday objects such as rings or broaches. NCR's major competitors are computer giants IBM, Microsoft and Olivetti.
Circus's task will span NCR's entire communications business including business-to-business and consumer advertising as well as internal communications, brochures and live events.
Nigel Barrick, marketing communications director of NCR Financial Solutions Group, the London-based division responsible for Circus's appointment, said "We like to think out of the box and we wanted an agency who could reflect that in the way we speak to customer through advertising, collateral and at live events. Circus's holistic approach will enable us to deliver the message we want with real vigour and excitement."

NCR started life in 1994 as the National Cash Register company, manufacturer of the worlds' first mechanical cash registers.
