New PHD has plugged the creative gap left by the departure last summer of John Harlow from its strategic planning agency Rocket, with the appointment of Mark Holden from OMD UK to the role of creative director.

The appointment reaffirms New PHD's commitment to the strategic group which suffered a blow when Harlow, Rocket's managing director, departed in July to set up his own agency.

Holden, who joins the agency in March, is an associate director at OMD and will work alongside Rocket's recently promoted managing director, Tim Forrest. He will not be responsible for specific clients, but work across Rocket's entire client portfolio.

Holden said: 'It's quite a progressive company and I see this as a new opportunity. The creative director title in itself directs you to what you should be doing within the company. My job will be to find innovative ways of communicating with consumers on behalf of clients.'

Forrest added: 'Mark is coming here principally to ensure that creativity continues to be a key part of our media offering and to see that media facilitates the communications process for creatives.'

At OMD, Holden is responsible for running one of the planning groups and works on accounts such as Volkwagen and the Labour Party. He had originally trained as an art director before landing a job in media through Equinox.

Rocket's key clients include Emap, Kickers, Eidos and Costa Coffee. Recent wins include the mobile marketing company Uboot, Studio from Universal and additional online business for Emap.
