New PHD has scooped the media planning and buying for the launch
task of the eight new BBC-Flextech cable and satellite channels.
The news comes less than a month after Leagas Delaney and BST-BDDP
picked up the creative spoils for the project, which is scheduled to go
live later this year (Campaign, 20 December 1996).
New PHD pitched with BST but the original shortlist included fellow BBC
roster shops, Bartle Bogle Hegarty and Saatchi and Saatchi, who pitched
with their respective media affiliates, Motive and Zenith Media.
David Pattison, a partner at New PHD, said: ’We are the BBC’s chosen
media company; we would expect to handle any future projects.’
New PHD is also confirmed as the media buying agency for Sainsbury’s
Bank. M&C Saatchi won the creative task before Christmas (Campaign, 20
December 1996) but Sainsbury’s is a long-standing client of New PHD’s
parent, the Abbott Mead Vickers group.
