New VW ad is the dogs

Diary fondled some low-hanging fruit the other day and came up with an idea for a TV ad for an oven-chip brand.

The opening shot has Luke Skywalker eating a plate of chips with his hands, and then Obi-Wan Kenobi appears and says: "Use the fork, Luke." Terrible as it sounds, it might just get made if the current frenzy for milking George Lucas' oeuvre continues. M&C Saatchi made Darth Vader shop in Dixons while Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R got a depressed-looking Yoda to endorse Vodafone. Evidently, the depths to which advertisers will plunge seem limitless. But there are still some flashes of Lucas-inspired genius. LA Deutsch's recent effort for Volkswagen, where 11 dogs bark out the Star Wars theme tune, being a case in point.
