Unique Solutions in Publishing's recently appointed managing director, Jackie Newcombe, has made her first major appointments at the Associated Newspapers operation.
Newcombe, who joined USP from Premier in October, has hired the former Sunday Mirror magazine editor Felicity Hawkins as the contract publisher's first editorial director and poached Kate Scally from Redwood to take a senior account director role.
Newcombe declared on her appointment that further appointments would be necessary if USP was to expand successfully. The publisher holds contracts for Avon and the London Symphony Orchestra. However, USP's general rate of growth was disappointing in its first year, leading to the departure of its previous managing director, Simon Barnes, in May.
'Since joining USP I have been hugely impressed by the calibre of staff here and am tremendously excited about the prospects for the business,' Newcombe said.
Hawkins' contract publishing experience includes a stint as the editorial director of John Brown Publishing. Scally had left a position as the advertising director of She and Good Housekeeping to run the prestigious Marks & Spencer account at Redwood.
