Newcombe steps up to MD position at IPC Southbank

Jackie Newcombe, the publishing director of Marie Claire, has been named managing director of IPC Southbank, following the departure of Sandy Whetton last week.

Newcombe takes up the post on 3 January and oversees IPC's portfolio of women's monthly titles, which include Marie Claire, InStyle and Woman & Home. She will also manage Wallpaper Group.

She will report to IPC's chief executive, Sylvia Auton, and will sit on the IPC board alongside the four other section heads - Philippa Brown, the managing director of IPC tx; Evelyn Webster, the head of IPC Connect; Tim Brooks, the managing director of IPC ignite!; and Caroline McDevitt, the IPC Advertising chief.

Newcombe has spent the majority of her career at IPC. She started at the publisher as a graduate trainee in 1981, later holding posts including that of publishing director at IPC's home interest group.

After three years in contract publishing, she returned to IPC in September 2003 to run Marie Claire.

Auton said: "Jackie is a true publishing professional with a proven track record and a clear strategic vision. I am delighted that she is joining the IPC Media board and I am looking forward to working with her."

Newcombe added: "SouthBank and Wallpaper employ the most fantastically talented people, who publish some of the country's most famous and best-loved magazines. It is a real thrill for me to have been asked to lead the team at this very exciting time for IPC."
