Motive Communications has won the account for eToys, the largest
online retailer of children’s products in the US. The campaign for
eToys, which launches in November, will focus on print and outdoor
media. Motive’s board director Steve Clark, head of planning Kevin Brown
and agency planner Matt Wilson will run the account.
Talk Radio has signed up the computer games company Infogrames to
sponsor its coverage of Manchester United’s Champions League matches.
Infogrames is to sponsor three Man United games, starting with
Marseilles on 29 October, to promote its new football game, UEFA
Carlton Television has unveiled its first outdoor advertising campaign
since the introduction of its new onscreen branding. The poster
campaign, for The Second World War in Colour documentary series on ITV,
appears in London and the Midlands on 700 48- and 96-sheet sites.
Financial Times Business, the specialist arm of the FT, is planning a
new title aimed at students, called Strapped for Cash. Launching in
November, 250,000 copies will be distributed free on university campuses
through the National Union of Students.
New PHD has scooped the pounds 10 million Warner Brothers account. The
agency, which will promote 30 new films for Warner Brothers, has not yet
assigned staff to work on the business. MediaCom previously handled the
account but was forced to resign it as a result of its merger with the
Media Business, which had Polygram Films as a client.
First Direct is to sponsor 12 hours of feature films on Channel 4’s
subscription movie channel, Film Four, on 1 October. The extravaganza,
entitled Directors’ Firsts, features Strictly Ballroom, Withnail & I and
Citizen Kane, among others. First Direct has lined up a number of
promotions - which celebrate the bank’s 10th anniversary - including a
month’s free subscription to Film Four plus offers with conjunction with
The Guardian and Odeon Cinemas.
WWAV Rapp Collins Media has lost two senior staff. Executive director
Joanna Carr is rumoured to be joining the Harrogate-based agency
Response Advertising Media, while the WWAV’s media manager Mike Smith
has defected to MediaCom Direct where he will be a director.
TDI, the transport site contractor, has announced that all its posters
for national advertising campaigns will feature barcodes by 1 January
2000. The barcode on each poster will be scanned and linked to the
barcode that appears on each bus, ensuring the campaign has been posted
The Independent has teamed up with Air France to run a cheap flights
promotion. Readers need to collect six tokens out of 14 printed in the
paper to claim their flights, which can be taken between November 1999
and March 2000. According to TGI, 80 per cent of The Independent’s
readers have taken a holiday in the past 12 months.
Miller Freeman UK has sold Incentive Today magazine and its sister
title, Incentive Today Buyers Guide to Trades Exhibitions. The
Fulham-based Trades Exhibitions is a magazine publisher and consumer and
trade exhibition organiser.
