Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation has signed the largest deal yet
between a traditional media owner and an internet company by forming a
dollars 1 billion global partnership with online health service
Healtheon/Web MD.
News Corp will make ad space worth dollars 700 million over ten years
available to the US company, in return for using branded content from
its popular Web MD site in newspaper columns, TV spots and publications.
It will spend dollars 100 million forming an international joint
venture.
News Corp president and CEO Peter Chernin said the deal reversed the
established model for content distribution. ’Companies traditionally
repurpose print or broadcast content for the web. We’re using the web as
a source for original programming which will be employed across all
media owned by News Corp.’
