Cordiant has poached Kevin Morton to become the managing director of
Equinox Communications, just six months after he joined J. Walter
Thompson as a group media director.
Morton, who is a former planning director at Equinox’s sister company,
Zenith Media, replaces Simon Mathews, who quit to become the managing
director of Optimedia in May (Campaign, 3 May).
Zenith’s chief executive, Christine Walker, who oversees Equinox,
commented: ‘I have worked with Kevin for more than ten years. He’s
extremely talented and approaches his work with enormous enthusiasm. I
am confident his appointment will be welcomed by both the Equinox
clients and staff.’
Before joining JWT, Morton was the strategic planning director at
Zenith, and worked across a portfolio of business that included Kraft
Jacob Suchard, Allied Domecq, Reckitt and Colman and Pfizer Consumer
He quit the company last January to join JWT as one of four group media
directors with specific responsibility for H. P. Bulmer, Warner Wellcome
and Stena Line.
Morton was part of the agency’s new management team that was put in
place by the media director, Mike Wood.
Equinox was formed in 1994 as Cordiant’s second-string media agency.
Mathews was poached from Young and Rubicam, where he had been the media
director, to head the business.
