The producer, Hugh Silver, and the director, Tony Smith, have left James
Garrett Films to set up a production company, the Knack.
Together, they have spent more than 18 years at Garretts, with Silver
joining in 1989 and Smith in 1985. They have worked mainly as a team at
Garretts and Silver said that their decision to leave was inevitable.
He commented: ‘It was time for us to do something for ourselves. Tony’s
done some good work, and we want to make a certain sort of commercial.

Although they have plans to sign additional directors, they are unlikely
to do so for at least six months.
Silver said: ‘We have a lot of projects we’re looking into, and we’re
quite happy to go along with just the two of us for the moment.’
Their first ad will be for the Surf campaign starring Pauline Quirke and
Linda Robson, which Smith and Silver worked on at Garretts.
