Grey’s managing director, Nigel Sharrocks, is expected to step down as
chairman of the agency’s London media shop, MediaCom, in the coming
months, paving the way for a top-level rejig.
Insiders say it is not known whether he will be replaced by the managing
director, Andy Troullides, or a high-profile individual from outside.
The move is likely to be one of a number of top-level initiatives at
MediaCom as it keeps pace with the increasing globalisation of clients.
This has already prompted the appointment, in March, of Mike Townsin as
a global media director for British American Tobacco, a role that he may
also fill on the SmithKline Beecham account.
SKB is reviewing its pounds 120 million media buying in Europe, but
denies changes are imminent in the UK. Nevertheless, Grey has sought to
strengthen its SKB line-up.
In the UK, the SKB account is run by Andrew Golbourne, deputy managing
director of MediaCom, and this is unlikely to change.
