Express Newspapers has poached Andy Jonesco, sales director of the
Telegraph group, as its group ad director. He replaces Christine
Costello, who is to leave the company.
The appointment reunites Jonesco with the Express chief executive,
Stephen Grabiner, who was the managing director of the Telegraph until
May. Grabiner arrived as the Telegraph and the Express were attempting
to shape plans to form a joint newspaper sales house. However, the deal
fell apart in July.
Grabiner said: ‘Andy’s reputation within the ad industry is unsurpassed
and his skills will add greatly to our drive to build circulation and
revenue across all titles.’
At the Express, Jonesco will be responsible for all ad revenue for both
Express titles, the Daily Star and the group’s promotional arm, Express
Enterprises.
Commenting on his appointment, Jonesco said: ‘The changes at the Express
have been excellent and there are still further changes to come.’
Jeremy Deedes, the Telegraph’s managing director, said: ‘I wish Andy
well, but concede the fact that I would rather he was staying at the
Telegraph.’
