Pirelli’s ‘Carl in New York’ ad by Young and Rubicam/Gerard de Thame
Films took the ITV gold award for best TV commercial at the 21st annual
British Television Advertising Awards last night.
The spot picked up three gold awards, the others being in the European
and post-production categories. It was followed closely by Abbott Mead
Vickers BBDO/Tony Kaye Films’ Volvo 850 ad, ‘twister’, which won two
golds - for the best car ad, and the Kodak Award for best use of craft.
The night’s other major honours, the AFM lighting award for best agency
and the Sammy’s award for top production company, went respectively to
Bartle Bogle Hegarty for the second year running and the Paul Weiland
Film Company for the third year in succession.
Other gold winners included BBH’s ‘washroom’ ad for Levi’s and BMP DDB
Needham’s/Walkers commercial for Salt ’n’ Lineker crisps.
