Portelly Films, the commercials production company that specialises in
underwater films, has signed up the American director, Chuck East, in a
bid to expand its offering to agencies.
East, 50, has extensive experience in producing documentaries in the US,
working through his own production company, Charles A. Stewart.
East’s commercials reel includes work for Diet Pepsi and Toyota. He has
now moved to London with his family and will be represented by Portelly
Films across Europe.
Portelly Films has a strong reputation for underwater filming, having
won a string of awards for direction and cinematography, including an
Eastman Kodak Gold Arrow for its ‘seabed’ Speedo ad.
In contrast to Mike Portelly, the company’s founder and principal
director, East will not direct films underwater.
Portelly Films’ producer, Amos Manasseh, said the company had wanted to
sign a second director for more than a year. ‘We have not expanded
before because we wanted to remain fresh,’ he commented.
Manasseh added: ‘Chuck is a story-teller. His forte, in our opinion, is
his ability to capture the uniqueness of an individual, creating an
intimacy and accessibility.’
