Walsh Trott Chick Smith has unveiled the second burst of its pounds 2
million drive for the national speech-based station, Talk Radio, with a
series of potentially controversial poster executions.
The work builds on the theme taken in the first push, which used
strikingly different news-based images to highlight Talk Radio’s
diversity. The new batch, which features three topical issues starkly
depicted in black and white, includes one execution on the sale of Alan
Shearer from Blackburn Rovers to Newcastle United. It shows two hands -
one giving the thumbs-up, while the other makes a ‘wanker’ gesture. The
line across the top runs: ‘pounds 15 million for Shearer?’
Another shows a pair of spectacles and a pair of teeth. The caption
above the spectacles is ‘the mug’ and above the teeth, ‘the smug’, while
the line across the top runs: ‘What choice of government have we really
got?’
The third execution shows one image of Fergie and Princess Diana in
evening dress, the other shows them both without heads. The top line
asks: ‘Should we pay for the royals?’ One caption says ‘yes’, the other
demands ‘off with their HRHs.’
The latest phase takes the campaign from its London-only launch to a
nationwide roll-out, with new work breaking across 1,000 poster sites on
1 November.
