NEWS: TMBG nets share of pounds 4m media buying for car-dealer giant

buying and planning account for the Appleyard Motor Group.



TMBG has been brought in by Barkers Scotland, which currently handles

both the creative and media accounts for the country’s largest new and

used car dealer. The brief is initially to plan and buy TV in the

Granada region but the relationship is under review at the end of the

year, at which point TMBG may be handed the entire media account.



Barkers Scotland’s chief executive, Robert Bain, said TMBG had been

called upon because of the rapid growth of the Appleyard business.



‘Appleyard has grown through a series of acquisitions and so the media

mix will be reviewed when it move into a new financial year in January,’

he explained.



‘That may lead to TMBG being involved further because we need cover

throughout the UK and want to offer the best possible routes for our

client.’ TMBG already works alongside Barkers in Birmingham on the

Moulinex business.



Appleyard trades from 103 sites under a number of regional dealerships.

It has a series of Japanese franchises and is the largest Volkswagen-

Audi dealer group in the UK. The motor dealer posted interim pre-tax

profits of pounds 4.6 million on a turnover of pounds 390.5 million last

month.



Barkers Scotland picked up the account at the end of 1994. TMBG declined

to comment.
