Director Publications, which produces Director magazine and is a
subsidiary of the Institute of Directors, has lost its managing
director, ad director and editor through resignations.
The three are planning to set up a new publishing company, which is as
It will be run by the former managing director of Director Publications,
Mike Bokaie, who was also the IoD marketing director, together with the
former ad director, Kate Pennington, and the former editor, Stuart Rock.
The departures come as the IoD reorganises its commercial activities
into a new subsidiary, IoD Enterprises, which will include Director
magazine, as well as conference and training.
It is understood that the three are working on the launch of a new
title. Bokaie would not comment on its nature but it is thought that it
will be unrelated to Director, which competes against the Haymarket
Publishing title, Management Today.
‘We found that there were a number of people who were prepared to back
us. We will be looking at a number of projects,’ Bokaie said.
The resignations come on top of two other losses at Director. The
magazine is to lose its managing editor, Tom Nash, who joins Abbott Mead
Vickers BBDO’s contract publishing arm, Redwood, to edit a new BT
magazine, and the Director associate editor, Matthew Rock.
Brian Salter, the director of communications at the IoD, said: ‘We are
now recruiting a managing director.’
Director is published monthly and its most recent ABC for July ’94 to
June ’95 was 37,686.
