UK Gold has raided Channel 4 for a new sales director to replace Nick
Milligan who is due to leave the channel to join Channel 5 as sales
Paul Taylor, Channel 4’s client sales manager and a former joint media
director at Geers Gross, joined UK Gold and its sister channel, UK
Living, as sales director this week.
Taylor had been with Channel 4 since it began selling its own airtime in
1992. He joined as one of four business managers, responsible for around
25 per cent of the station’s revenue.
At UK Gold, Taylor will take over responsibility for a 27-strong sales
team, though several members of the existing sales force are expected to
follow Milligan to Channel 5.
Taylor said: ‘My objective is to convince the sales team that there is a
place for them here, that there are plenty of opportunities for them.’
He added that he is keen to build on the existing UK Gold sales culture.
However, Taylor joins the company at a time of uncertainty over the
future of its sales operation.
UK Gold and Living are set to form part of a new satellite TV sales
operation, being sold alongside United Artists Programming channels such
as Bravo, the Family Channel, and TCC, the children’s channel.
The idea is to combine the smaller satellite channels under one sales
roof to boost their presence in the airtime sales market. Richard
Burdett, the sales chief at UAP, has been tipped for the top job at the
sales house, but the high-profile appointment of Taylor at UK Gold could
change the balance of power.
