NTL has appointed its first London sales manager to run its
fledgling sales team.
Ann Bailey joins the company from Comcast in the US, where she worked on
various titles such as Gospel Today.
Bailey will be the first of a raft of new personnel hired by NTL,
brought in to persuade London agencies to spend their clients’ budgets
on local advertising.
Peter Lilley, director of sales at NTL, said he is teaching his new
recruit the ’dos and don’ts of British business etiquette’ before she
tours the agencies.
Although plans for a London agency sales team were announced at the
start of this year (Media Business, 10 January), it has taken Lilley six
months to unearth the right candidate.
According to Lilley, the local media’s battle to win clients’ budgets
takes place in the agencies.
’If one of the retailers decides to advertise a series of local sales,
it’s likely agencies will spend their budgets with local press before
our sales guys get to the client,’ he said.
Now the merger with Cable & Wireless has gone ahead, Lilley sits at the
helm of a recently combined NTL and C&W sales team of 40.
