Optimum Media Direction, the Omnicom-owned global media network,

has poached Johan Denekamp from the Media Edge to be its European chief

operating officer.

The appointment is part of a restructure of OMD’s European operations

that will also see chief executive, Viviane Prat, promoted to chairman

of OMD Europe.

The overhaul is designed to strengthen the network’s central management

structure and speed up the development of the OMD brand around

Europe.

Prat and Denekamp will work together to create greater coherence within

OMD, with Prat focusing on media and Denekamp taking a commercial and

financial role.

Daryl Simm, the global chief executive of Omnicom Media, said: ’The

progress that OMD Europe has made in a few short years is a credit to

Viviane’s outstanding work and vision. But as we’re evolving as a

network we need an even greater level of capacity and consistency.’

Simm said that Denekamp’s strong management and financial background,

and his proven experience of building European networks, made him the

perfect candidate for the role.

Denekamp joined the Media Edge more than a year ago as general manager

of the global network, working with the company’s vice-chairman, Paul

Woolmington, to drive best practice throughout the network. Before that

he was chief operating officer of Tempus, the parent company for CIA

Medianetwork.

Denekamp, who will be based in London, described Omnicom as ’the group

holding company that I’ve always admired the most’. He added: ’The

opportunity to help lead the development of the OMD Europe business is a

dream job.’

OMD launched in 1996, bringing together the media resource of the BBDO,

DDB and TWBA networks. In Europe, OMD is not yet established in every

market and still has some issues of structure and reporting lines

between the group Omnicom agencies to resolve.
