OMD TV chief rejects MindShare offer in favour of Euro post

Ian Lomas, the head of TV and a managing partner at OMD UK, has

turned down a senior position at MindShare to take up a new role within

OMD Europe.

Lomas has been appointed by OMD Europe's chief executive, Colin

Gottlieb, to head client operations across the European media

network.

His role is the first in a series of appointments that will see heads of

the key media disciplines, such as planning and research, being put in

place across the European media network.

Gottlieb said: 'There will be several category champions with

cross-border focus responsibility for key disciplines across the group.

It will maximise the effectiveness of OMD across Europe, and ensure best

practice.'

Lomas will be in charge of OMD Europe's buying, trading and systems

across 26 European markets.

'We wanted someone big enough and ugly enough to know the business. He's

done it brilliantly here and he will be able to do it across Europe,'

Gottlieb added.

Lomas said: 'The opportunity at MindShare was without doubt unique, but

the role created by Colin's category champions of OMD Europe, and the

opportunity to expand the trading discipline across all of our European

network, proved very attractive.'

Lomas was in talks with MindShare earlier this year (Campaign, 9 March)

as the agency looked to bolster its senior management line-up.

Mark Bignall will replace Lomas and become OMD UK's sole head of TV.
