ONdigital wins right to broadcast Sky’s sporting channels

ONdigital has won the rights to broadcast all BSkyB’s sports

channels following the relaxation of Independent Television Commission

rules.

The ITC has revised its digital points system in favour of ONdigital,

removing restrictions on who can broadcast on its services.

As a result, BSkyB will provide ONdigital with Sky Sports 2 to add to

its existing sports services, Sky Sports 1 and 3 other channels.

Although BSkyB officially welcomed the announcement, ONdigital will now

claim that it is one step ahead of BSkyB, as it also owns the exclusive

rights to the European Champion’s League football for the next four

years.

A spokesperson for ONdigital said: ’We have offered BSkyB the Champion’s

League.’ But BSkyB said the terms and conditions of ONdigital’s offer

could not have been met without breaching ITC guidelines.
