’I got the Vogue job because my tea making ability is so awful,’
admits Abi Chisman.
’It was April 1996 and I was a fashion journalism student at Central St
Martin’s. I managed to wangle two weeks’ work experience at GQ Online, and
that fortnight somehow turned into a year.
’The first few weeks were spent inputting data, answering the phones and
making a lot of tea - I think my disgusting tea was the reason I was
promoted so quickly,’ jokes Chisman.
During a chat with Dan Conaghan, the GQ Online editor at the time, Chisman
managed to convince him of the need for a daily fashion news page. He
agreed and Vogue Online was born.
