Suave Frenchman Eric Clemenceau’s job was in stark contrast to his
current position as a high-flying executive. Instead of trying to ignite
the enthusiasm of advertisers, he helped Parisians warm their homes. In
short, Clemenceau delivered wood.
’The only people who bought firewood were either the rich, who wanted
roaring fires, or the very poor, who had no other way of keeping warm,’
he recalls. ’So sometimes the job would be easy, delivering wood to the
first floor, while other times it involved climbing to the top of old
apartment buildings without elevators.’ A metaphor for a job in sales,
perhaps?
