After boarding school Fru Hazlitt was set to become the next Grace
Kelly, but her parents did not consider acting to be a suitable career
for a nice young lady.
’My father equated acting with prostitution, so I compromised and did a
degree in English and Drama. After graduating, I tried to get an Equity
card by doing ghastly things like Bulgarian wine commercials, where you
didn’t even get to taste the wine - it was just foul pink liquid.’
Next she founded a theatre group. ’I set up a drama class at my old
school. It all went well until we used the word ’sex’ three times in one
of our plays.’
From then on it was clear she was destined for a career in sales.
