Magazine Company, turned a dull job into a sparkling opportunity.

After leaving Leeds University with a degree in business studies and

languages, an optimistic Melanie Leathers began her search for that

glamorous job in media. Like so many graduates, she was to be

disappointed.

’Allen Brady & Marsh had a vacancy in its personnel department so I took

it because it offered me a way of getting into an agency,’ she reveals.

Unfortunately, there were only two employees and it involved ’a lot of

boring administration’.

But she got to hang out with agency folk and vet incoming CVs. ’This

inspired me to believe that I too could work in advertising. And after a

year in personnel, I was working as a planner/buyer in the regional

media department.’
