Opodo poaches Red Letter Days marketing chief

LONDON - Opodo has hired Isabelle Ratinaud, marketing director at gift supplier Red Letter Days, as its European marketing chief.

Ratinaud, who has also worked at shoe retailer Clarks and Gillette, joins the online travel firm as head of marketing under Simon Vincent, who also previously worked at Red Letter Days. She will be in charge of UK country manager Neil Mott, who last year appointed Karmarama to Opodo's £2.5m ad account.

Ratinaud will be responsible for repositioning the travel brand as a website that does more than sell flights. Opodo is keen to take on competitors such as Travelocity, Expedia and Ebookers, which position themselves as offering a complete holiday service, from rental cars to hotels.

Ratinaud's appointment is the latest in a series of senior hirings and follows the arrival of Stephan Uhrenbacher, a former marketer at lastminute.com, as commercial director last month.

Opodo was set up in 2001 by nine European airlines. Global booking system Amadeus took a controlling stake in the company in June last year, which it increased to 74% last month.
