Oprah passed the million-follower mark yesterday just 28 days after signing up for the service, despite only averaging a little over one Tweet per day.
In the world of Twitter, where celebrity status is much more important than poignant or insightful content, Oprah's Tweets range from banal comments on the weather to exclusive behind the scenes looks at her popular talk show.
A couple of messages to Oprah's followers, or as she calls them "tweeps" include:
"Met Stella McCartney for the first time. Love her fashion. Loooved her even more!"
"Worked out an hour. And now going to read the Sunday papers and have a skinny cow or 2!"
Oprah also uses the service to mingle with fellow Twitterati, including Hugh Jackman and Shaquille O'Neal.
"@RealHughJackman Hugh...I'm countin' the hours. Wanna do dinner the night before. Same booth? Or catch up fresh on the air?"
"@THE_REAL_SHAQ thanks for being my twitter buddy. this is cool."
Oprah herself only follows 11 Twitter users, most already past one million followers or very close, including comedian Jimmy Fallon, fellow talk shows hosts Ellen DeGeneres and Larry King, and Ashton Kutcher.
Kutcher, known for his celebrity pranking television show 'Punk'd', was in a race with CNN to be the first Twitter user to have one million followers last month, winning by a mere 30 minutes.
Yesterday Kutcher infiltrated the CNN headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia and managed to throw a larger banner displaying his Twitter name (@aplusk) over the neon CNN logo, as part of his bet with the news network.
Kutcher is now nearing the 2m follower mark as CNN nears 1.5m.
